YouTube outlaw pardoned in Texas

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Education Center International (ECI) Academy, Texas, USA, has enabled safe, purposeful access to YouTube content for students thanks to CACHEBOX and its integrated Media Library.

ECI offers students a personalised blended-learning programme at each of its 3 locations in the Dallas metropolitan area. To enhance the 1:1 programme, teachers at ECI have long wanted to include select YouTube videos in lesson plans. However, with fears of exposing students to unsuitable content – a modern-day dilemma faced by schools worldwide – the Principal banned YouTube.

Responding to a webinar invitation for caching, Technology Director Kamon Suetrong was delighted to discover CACHEBOX’s powerful caching features – especially its integrated Media Library – an ideal solution for controlling access to online content.

At the network level, CACHEBOX caches all types of school content, including video and software update files – saving bandwidth and speeding up content by serving it via the LAN. And at the classroom level, its Media Library feature enables teachers to store web objects locally – serving only select, teacher-approved content to students within the confines of a secure portal. This means ECI can finally include YouTube content – without having to lift the ban.

“With Media Library, CACHEBOX lets teachers share learning material directly with students – away from the distraction of other unwanted videos, advertising and pop-ups. And because the content is cached locally, access is instant – even when offline,” says CACHEBOX Consultant Sergio Villegas. “The Academy’s teachers can develop their own lesson plans and resources, to easily share with colleagues at all 3 school sites, or peers further afield.“

With all concerns regarding student access to YouTube dismissed, ECI has ordered a CACHEBOX for each of its three school sites.
