CACHEBOX delights Turks & Caicos
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that TCT, an internet and cable TV Service Provider on the islands of Turks and Caicos, has purchased 2 CACHEBOX310s to replace an obsolete caching solution.
Following recent connection upgrades, TCT’s monthly bandwidth costs are over $100,000. Caching helps it get the most out of this expensive connection, enabling it to add more users, deliver faster speeds to subscribers and avoid further upgrades.
The service provider purchased and deployed a bespoke caching solution 5 years ago, but the solution’s vendor stopped supporting it after just two years. Without regular updates, TCT’s caches couldn’t keep pace with rapidly changing traffic patterns. It was particularly impacted by content like video and software updates which were no longer being cached.
In addition to delivering poor performance, TCT’s existing deployment was also time-consuming to manage with 16 individual servers to look after, each running 2 instances of Squid. The service provider needed an appliance that would deal with modern internet traffic and ease their server management burden.
“With CACHEBOX, TCT gets significantly better performance from far fewer appliances, simplifying their deployment,” commented Ross Horn, ApplianSys Sales Executive.
TCT purchased a 5 year ApplianSys support agreement, giving them peace of mind that their solution will continue to cache bandwidth-intensive traffic even as the delivery schemes employed by content providers evolve.
TCT Ltd. was formed in April 2003 to provide best-in-class “high-speed” internet services to the Turks & Caicos Islands. Along with sister company, WIV Cable TV, TCT provides entertainment and internet services across the islands through a state-of-the-art fiber-optic cable network.
