ApplianSys today announced that Peterborough City Council is switching away from its BIND based DNS to increase security and simplify administration.

Following news of another BIND vulnerability earlier this year, the council’s ICT team contacted ApplianSys to discuss ways of protecting its web presence and online services for residents.

DNSBOX has been designed with DNS best practice in mind. Things like running a mix of DNS management software, disabling unused ports, and going for increased redundancy in favour of hardening single servers, give you greater security out of the box,” states Magdalena Jovanovic, DNSBOX Product Manager. “What’s more, with it’s easy to use web-interface and powerful delegated administration features it make sharing tasks both easy and safe.”

Peterborough will deploy DNSBOX masters and slaves at three sites including failover units at a disaster recovery site.

Peterborough County Council (www.peterborough.gov.uk) serves apopulation of over 164,000 in the East of England.
