CACHEBOX in Italian job
ApplianSys announced today that ASComputer, a wireless internet service provider in Naples, has bought CACHEBOX210 to improve services for its customers.
Keen to improve the experience of its 200 individual users ASComputer was searching for the right caching solution. Company Director, Antonio Ruggiero realised that being able to handle video caching could massively improve the internet speed of the network.
“People on our LAN sometimes watch similar videos. If one user shares a link to a video, for example posts it on Facebook, many of his friends will watch it too. As a result, one video gets viewed many times within a few hours. The chances of getting multiple hits in our network for the most popular videos are quite high. We wanted to cache YouTube and other flash videos, so that if one user downloads a file, others could download the same file straight from the cache, instead of from the internet server,” explains Antonio.
ASComputer provides its wireless internet connection over 6 balanced ADSL lines at a speed of 7 Mbit/s each, with HTTP traffic peaking at 19 Mbit/s. Based on this requirement, ApplianSys Sales Executive Sophie Clark identified CACHEBOX210 as the right sized solution.
“CACHEBOX can store large objects, such as video files, which makes a big difference for the ASComputer’s users.” says Sophie.
“It’s been only 6 days since we installed CACHEBOX and we’re already saving our bandwidth. YouTube videos open instantly. Before installing CACHEBOX even Facebook gave us trouble. Now, not only the website loads much quicker, but we are even caching Facebook applications.” comments Antonio.
