Kenyan ISP runs faster with DNSBOX
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Kenyan ISP, MyISP, has bought a DNSBOX solution to replace its previous DNS cache solution and improve DNS services for its customers.
The ISP provides both recursive and authoritative DNS services to around 100 corporate customers.
Previously, MyISP used BIND on a LINUX server for resolving recursive DNS services. In 2015 however, Network Operations Manager Paul Mwiu noticed frequent complaints of slow speeds, with some customers occasionally reporting session time-outs.
Paul explains: “DNS service reliability and availability is critical to our corporate customers – and therefore a priority for us. But the high volume of DNS queries during peak business hours would often overload our server.”
It was obvious to Paul that the network had outgrown the ISP’s existing DNS solution. He therefore searched online for a high performance DNS cache server to replace it.
He found that DNSBOX matched his DNS performance requirement and was very affordable. A pair of DNSBOX200 DNS servers was deployed to handle all services for customers.
DNSBOX Sales Executive, Vasco Figueiredo, says: “DNSBOX runs advanced specialist software dedicated to recursive resolution – UNBOUND. This means it delivers 2.5x the performance of BIND-based servers.”
“We no longer receive complaints of slow speeds – the DNSBOXes handle all our customer’s recursive DNS queries easily. Plus, with further network growth, scaling the solution to include a third box will be really affordable and easy to set up,” says Paul.
