ApplianSys today announced the Kansas Research and Education Network (KanREN) has selected DNSBOX to provide a reliable DNS services to over 500 member sites.

Many of the smaller schools on its Kan-ED network have little or no DNS skills in-house and are dependent on KanREN staff to make changes for them. KanREN was keen to avoid overloading its DNS team and needed a way to delegate management of records on a per domain/zone basis to helpdesk staff and the schools themselves.

“When you’re delegating administration of something as critical as DNS, you need 100% confidence in your chosen solution,” states Magdalena Jovanovic, DNSBOX Sales Manager. “The User Groups feature on DNSBOX allows a central super-administrator to maintain tight granular control over the rights of delegated administrators, especially when as in this case they dont have a huge amount of experience with DNS. This is one of the reasons, DNSBOX is proving popular with state education networks in the US Heartland – Kansas were encouraged by the positive experience of nearby Tennessee.”

KanREN (www.kanren.net) is a non-profit consortium of colleges, universities, school districts and related organisations in Kansas.  University of Kansas led creation of the consortium to aid communication between the member organisations as well as providing access to the Internet via a statewide TCP/IP network. KanREN continues to be the premier education network in the state.
