CACHEBOX conquers Guatemala peaks

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Guatemalan school, Colegio Capouilliez, has chosen CACHEBOX to both improve student access to e-learning content and reduce rising bandwidth costs.

The Guatemalan school is home to over 2,500 students, all of whom need to go online at the same times throughout the day. As a result, students experience slow download speeds as the network’s 100 Mbps link suffers from congestion during times of high network activity, such as at the start of lessons.

Bandwidth-heavy video files and HTTPS content make up the majority of the school’s network traffic, with video sites like YouTube being the largest consumers.

Luvy Aragon, the school’s Network Administrator, was concerned with the amount of traffic and had seen that upgrading bandwidth wouldn’t help. The school’s peak time activity would mean capacity limits would always be exceeded and thus access to content would remain slow due to network congestion.

Luvy also had plans to continue the current growth of the network, and increase the number of student devices available, and so looked for an alternative solution. He found CACHEBOX to be the perfect fit.

By serving content locally, CACHEBOX eliminates slow loading times for classroom content, in addition to dramatically saving bandwidth. No more wasted lesson time, or poor QoS.

CACHEBOX can also uniquely cache HTTPS content – which forms the majority of e-learning resources – meaning even bigger bandwidth savings for schools.

CACHEBOX is a low-cost investment and offers schools a high ROI, as well as helping them to avoid that immediate expensive bandwidth upgrade, while delaying future upgrades as demand inevitably grows. Additionally, Colegio Capouilliez can support further network growth with the bandwidth saved by CACHEBOX.

CACHEBOX Sales Executive, David Zangouras, says: “Colegio Capouilliez are trying to support very intense online activity with limited connections that often get saturated during peak traffic hours. Through serving content locally, CACHEBOX ensures the high quality of the service and ensures that students and staff properly benefit from online tools.”
