Eton achieves world class DHCP
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Eton College, England’s most famous school, has chosen DNSBOX as an on-site DHCP solution, eliminating the expense of maintaining a full Windows Server solely for DHCP.
Having recently upgraded its network infrastructure to cloud-based Microsoft Azure to reduce its local server footprint, Eton College still needed to keep its DHCP service on-site. With school buildings and student boarding houses spread across the town of Eton, and a highly complex IT network with thousands of devices to support, a redundant and secure DHCP service was essential.
“When network managers migrate their network infrastructure from Windows Server to the cloud, they’re left with the question of what to do with their on-site DHCP,” explains Sales Director Magdalena Jovanovic. “It doesn’t make sense to retain a duplicate Windows Server on-site just for DHCP, especially given its high licence and ongoing maintenance costs.”
The network team at Eton College initially trialled installing ISC KEA on a local server but found it too difficult to maintain.
With DNSBOX, Eton College’s network team get all the benefits of a fit-for purpose, dedicated DHCP appliance, and the flexibility of an embedded ISC KEA engine with an intuitive GUI and server management application software. And by deploying two DNSBOX210s in a high-availability pair, Eton College has further guaranteed service uptime for its students.
Magdalena continues, “DNSBOX met their needs for on-site DHCP in terms of security, reliability, and user-friendliness, giving the network team peace of mind.”
