Eduseeds grows by seeding CACHEBOX

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that education content provider, Eduseeds, has chosen CACHEBOX to provide faster and more reliable online video content to students worldwide.

Eduseeds provides its cloud-based e-learning management system to various centres across Southeast Asia. Emmanual Schwartz, Project Manager at Eduseeds, describes why his customers choose Eduseeds: “Online learning tools have many advantages over textbooks: they can be accessed from anywhere – school or home – and are much more cost-effective than printed textbook distribution. Crucially, they provide a much richer, more stimulating and interactive academic experience for students.”

Emmanuel noticed that clients in some remote regions suffered from limited bandwidth, resulting in slow access to Eduseeds’ online content – at times it was even impossible.

“Large files like video consume lots of bandwidth, and some schools using Eduseeds have as little as 2Mbps. That simply isn’t enough capacity to handle multiple simultaneous requests for these files – which is normal in classrooms,” explains ApplianSys Sales Executive Harminder Heer.

“This makes implementing online learning extremely difficult, as students and teachers have to wait for videos to download, or are even forced to abandon lessons at times.”

Previously, Eduseeds deployed an open-source caching solution in customer sites to cache content and serve it locally. However, many sites didn’t have the bandwidth capacity even to download a video to the cache the first time it was requested.

It became clear to Emmanuel that he needed the ability to add content to the caching device before sending it to customers. This was not possible with the open source solution so he searched online and found CACHEBOX was ideal. Using its pre-caching feature, as many as 10,000 Eduseeds videos were pre-loaded onto the appliance – saving customers up to 3.5TB of downloads and delivering Eduseeds content instantly to students.

By having Eduseeds’ lesson materials stored in CACHEBOX and served locally, teachers can now plan lessons around high quality content with confidence that it will be accessible when they come to use it in class.
