DNSBOX gets Nigerian Visa
ApplianSys announced today that Visafone Communications Limited, the fastest growing mobile company in Nigeria, has bought a DNSBOX solution to speed up DNS request services and improve web browsing for its 1m client base.
Visafone had a 2Gbps mobile data network, with its internet connection aggregated at one point from where it was distributed to five regions. As its mobile network experienced immense growth, DNS service requests to its local server started experiencing frequent timeouts, and delays in requests to public DNS. The company was now looking to upgrade to 5Gbps.
As a result, it needed a reliable, robust and highly available recursive DNS caching solution to serve roughly 1,000,000 DNS clients across multiple regions, with a performance of at least 15,000 queries per second. To ensure that this need was met, Visafone deployed a DNSBOX230 slave in each of its 2 core network locations.
DNSBOX Product Manager Dave Gravell comments: “For Visafone, performance and cost were the key considerations in this decision. The recursive DNS server on DNSBOX200 is Unbound, which delivers much higher requests per second than BIND.”
“Another factor they’re quite pleased with is the ability to add authoritative DNS in the future – which can easily be done on their existing DNSBOXes as and when the need for it arises. All in all, the DNSBOX solution is helping them keep their clients’ internet experience at a premium service level.”
Visafone Communications Ltd (www.visafone.com.ng) was established in June 2007 as a result of the strategic acquisition of 3 CDMA mobile network operators that had been in operation for up to 8 years with 30,000 subscribers and coverage in different parts of Nigeria. It offers mobile, fixed and any other telecommunications service to its subscribers.
In 2008, it was voted The Best ICT Company and Best Telecom Brand in Nigeria, having crossed the 1million subscriber mark in just 6 months from its launch in February 2008. It has since amassed over 3 million subscribers.
