CACHEBOX Caribbean cure
ApplianSys announced today that St George’s University, the leading Caribbean medical school, has bought a CACHEBOX solution to improve bandwidth performance at its main campus at True Blue, Grenada, and a computer centre in New York.
The New York site has 200 users and a 150Mbps connection, while Grenada has 6,000 users with 300Mbps. Its network structure comprises of three units: one serves all users in its New York location, with the other two serving different sets of users each on two separate internal networks in Grenada.
Network Engineer Joseph Del Vecchio explains, “While all our units are independent, the two sets of users behind each of the two units in Grenada converge at a firewall and have access to the same internet connections. This resulted in limited bandwidth and slow internet connectivity, so we had a cluster pair of CACHEBOX230 units to help free off some of that load. This has helped us save bandwidth and improve internet access in Grenada. The same was achieved by deploying a single CACHEBOX230 in New York.”
Founded as an independent School of Medicine in 1976, St. George’s University (www.sgu.edu) is located in the island of Grenada, West Indies. Its students and faculty come from across 140 countries and it has approximately 11,000 graduates. The university is affiliated with educational institutions worldwide, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland.
