Canadian campus caches-up

ApplianSys today announced Seneca College, a leading comprehensive polytechnic in Canada, has chosen CACHEBOX to improve bandwidth use on campus.

Like many organisations around the world, Seneca was struggling with the effect of online video affecting network performance. Introducing online media into lessons has a positive impact on learning, but large files choke the bandwidth available for other applications and network users.

“Services like YouTube are great for students and teachers, but if you’re the one managing your organisation’s limited bandwidth, you’re probably not so excited,” suggests Steven Tee, CACHEBOX Product Manager. “Students often look at the same video in class, so it makes sense to cache content locally – ideally before lessons start.  With content pre-fetching and online video caching built in, CACHEBOX gives your users their rich web experience and gives you one less thing to worry about.”

Seneca looked at many vendors, but concluded only ApplianSys offered an easy-to-use dedicated caching appliance at a sensible price.

Seneca College (www.senecac.on.ca) is Canada’s largest post-secondary institution with 100,000 students on eight major campuses throughout Toronto, offering diplomas, four-year Bachelor degrees and a growing number of one-year post-graduate career specializations in a variety of disciplines.
