Nexus connects to CACHEBOX
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Nexus.Net – a small Internet Service Provider in South Africa – has bought a CACHEBOX solution as an alternative to an expensive bandwidth upgrade.
Nexus.Net’s 15Mb upstream link was approaching capacity, with usage at nearly 80% during peak hours. Upgrading bandwidth was prohibitively expensive and, with a rapidly growing customer-base, the ISP anticipated issues with the speed and quality of its customers’ connections.
“It seemed that increasing our pipe was the only option but we wanted to avoid it if possible. The price of bandwidth in South Africa is very high – it’s about. 2000ZAR (200$)/month for each additional 1Mb,” comments the company owner, Michael Simpson.
Having identified caching as a more cost-effective way to maintain their service quality, Nexus.Net contacted ApplianSys to enquire about CACHEBOX230.
“We see many ISPs from South Africa in a similar situation: bandwidth upgrades are very expensive. But the content these ISPs serve is perfect for caching. 75% of Nexus.Net’s traffic is HTTP and, as a powerful cache, CACHEBOX deals with this easily.” commented Harminder Heer, ApplianSys Sales Executive. “Having evaluated Nexus.Net’s network and traffic profile, I identified CACHEBOX100 as a good fit. This amount of users could be served with this entry-level product.”
“We don’t oversell at ApplianSys – our customers should never incur unnecessary cost by purchasing too big an appliance, implementing overkill installation or support arrangements” added Harminder.
Nexus.Net deployed CACHEBOX100 with their Mikrotik router at the network core and now makes much better use of its bandwidth avoiding an immediate need for an expensive upgrade.
“CACHEBOX does just what it says it will. We’ve improved our user experience and can even add more users without an immediate need for a bandwidth upgrade” summarised Michael.
