CACHEBOX the key SuccessFactor
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Hornbeck Offshore Services is deploying CACHEBOX onboard its 50-strong fleet of vessels to guarantee access to its cloud-based training programmes for crews at sea.
Hornbeck’s Learning Management System (LMS) leverages online content from SAP’s SuccessFactors for employee training and development. Vessel crews undertake regular training to keep skills up-to-date and operation in line with the latest safety measures. However, enabling access for crews while at sea has proved challenging – sometimes impossible.
When offshore, the maritime fleet relies on VSAT satellite bandwidth, but this is prohibitively expensive. Each ship has to contend with very limited capacity – typically between 256 and 512Kbps. As a result, congestion is a regular occurrence, causing delays and lengthy page-load times. Video constantly buffers or stalls completely, leaving crew unable to complete their training.
Director of Information Technology Don D’Arcourt needed to find a workable solution. In researching what might help, he contacted ApplianSys for further information on CACHEBOX.
Proven on maritime vessels, CACHEBOX specialises in storing and serving cloud-based content locally, minimising the need for internet access. No delays, no buffering – just fast content whenever it’s needed. To keep bandwidth usage to a minimum while at sea, content can be downloaded at off-peak times or preloaded when in port. CACHEBOX effectively multiplies bandwidth capacity, enabling more users to access web content without impacting internet speeds for others.
When Dan learned that CACHEBOX was fully endorsed by SuccessFactors and ApplianSys recommended a partner, he immediately placed his first order.
“Reliance on satellite connectivity while at sea means crews are often shut out of the internet. This doesn’t just impact training, it lowers morale,” says CACHEBOX Consultant Marianne Cowie. “But thanks to CACHEBOX, SuccessFactors content is more than 66 times faster than from the internet, putting offshore training firmly back on track.”
