CACHEBOX speeds Colombian lessons
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Science and Technology SAS has purchased 80 CACHEBOXes and a CACHEBOXCMC to help set up internet-enabled learning at schools in Santander, Colombia.
Science and Technology SAS provides IT services to enterprises and schools across Colombia. “For this project, we had to provide a 4Mbps internet connection to 80 schools in the Santander region,” explains Carlos Zafra, General Manager at Science and Technology. “We needed to ensure that students would be able to access large objects like video files quickly, without disrupting valuable lesson time.”
Each school has between 10 and 15 student devices which are used to access educational content including videos and general web content. Carlos expected that the small connections would struggle to deliver content quickly: “With such small links, large objects could cause bandwidth congestion and take a long time to load, wasting classroom time.”
Carlos’ business partner – Ismael – referred him to CACHEBOX, having deployed it in his network and seen significant improvements. “Ismael had tested CACHEBOX and recommended it for our schools project as it really helped him save bandwidth and solve congestion issues,” says Carlos.
Carlos decided that CACHEBOX would be ideal for this project and purchased a CACHEBOX050 to deploy in each school. The project’s first phase will include a roll-out of 24 CACHEBOXes. A CACHEBOXCMC has also been purchased so that the roll-out can be done centrally – making the project easy to deploy and manage.
“CACHEBOX was designed with schools, for schools,” comments ApplianSys Sales Executive Ross Parker. “So it’s really easy to deploy & manage and it fits education budgets. The CACHEBOXCMC will make life even easier for Carlos – he can manage the deployment and ongoing administration of each CACHEBOX from a central location.”
