CACHEBOX rocks their boat
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Marine Satellite Systems (MSS), a leading provider of VSAT entertainment systems for superyachts, has chosen CACHEBOX to enhance streaming performance for a premium onboard user experience.
MSS entertainment systems enable clients and staff onboard ship to enjoy high definition video and audio content whether in port or at sea. However, satellite connectivity is limited, slow, and easily impacted by weather – leaving service unreliable.
Clients find peak demand quickly saturates connectivity, even on higher 25Mbps VSAT connections. The resulting congestion causes video to buffer and content to stall while downloading, leaving passengers and crew dissatisfied.
Technical Engineer Erik Wikstrom knows his prestigious clients expect the best service possible. He needed a way to deliver buffer-free streaming – without resorting to pre-loading content in port and drastically limiting entertainment options onboard.
Erik was delighted to find that CACHEBOX would store and serve the content clients requested, even while at sea. With just one download, simultaneous demand from multiple users can be met instantly, using far less precious bandwidth.
CACHEBOXes can also pre-download video, audio catalogues, even whole websites during off-peak periods, maximising availability for passengers and crew when they need it most.
ApplianSys put Erik in touch with the operations manager of a well-known superyacht who had recently deployed CACHEBOX, who was keen to recommend it.
“We are seeing a growing number of forward-thinking operators and suppliers like Erik who deploy CACHEBOX for their superyacht clients,” says CACHEBOX Consultant Marianne Cowie. “Only caching can help them deliver the premium experience their customers demand.”
