CACHEBOX makes a splash in Burkina Faso
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that 2IE, the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering in Burkina Faso, has replaced its existing caching solution with CACHEBOX to relieve bandwidth congestion and support its growing student population.
2IE’s 40Mbps link caters to a user base that has grown from 200 to 2,500 in the past two years. During this time, a Squid caching server was put in place to optimise bandwidth usage, but IT Manager Boukari Ouegraogo was unhappy with its performance.
The majority of traffic on the network was online educational content, including large video files. With a BYOD scheme in place, the number of user devices increased and bandwidth congestion worsened – frustrating students as they experienced slow access to content.
Moreover, the existing system was complex and time-consuming to manage, often requiring expertise the university simply didn’t have. Upgrading bandwidth was not affordable.
Boukari knew caching was the answer but needed a solution that was easier to use and delivered much faster internet access to content. He found CACHEBOX was ideal.
Following this, two CACHEBOXes – CACHEBOX210 and CACHEBOX230 – will be deployed in the network, to optimise available bandwidth and create additional capacity to facilitate user growth.
About
2IE (http://www.2ie-edu.org/) was established in 2007 and is the result of the merger and restructuring of former schools – Engineering School for Rural Equipment (EIER States) and School of Technicians of Hydraulics and Rural Equipment (ETSHER). The university specialises in the areas of water, energy, environment, civil engineering and mining.
