ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Lycée Français de Tananarive (LFT), a French international school in Madagascar, has secured the fast, responsive user experience its classrooms need, thanks to CACHEBOX.

Managed by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), LFT’s curriculum is based on online content. So ensuring adequate internet access for its 3,000 students is vital.

However, high-speed bandwidth capacity in Madagascar is expensive. LFT’s schools had to rely on shared access to a 10Mbps link. With 400 users accessing the internet at any one time, the resulting traffic spike simply overwhelmed capacity, causing congestion.

Whole classrooms of students faced lengthy, frustrating delays when instructed to access the same online material. Media-rich content like YouTube and e-book videos were often impossible to watch, so teachers had resorted to using a projector in order to play videos to an entire class.

IT Manager Mamy Raisoa researched ways to manage traffic by limiting access, but came across CACHEBOX. Excited that it would boost effective capacity rather than cap it for each school, he quickly placed an order and was delighted by the results.

In serving the majority of content from local cache, far less needs to come from the internet. In fact, learning content from LFT’s busiest website, Hachette, is now served almost entirely from cache.

“With congestion alleviated, the delays have vanished,” says CACHEBOX Consultant Marianne Cowie. “And because more content is served locally, at much faster LAN speeds, the classroom experience has been fully transformed.”
