Cache-rich sultans enjoy faster web
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Bagdad Unified School District (USD), Arizona, has purchased a CACHEBOX solution to eliminate bandwidth congestion and speed up web browsing.
With an open network policy and hosting over 750 devices for students and staff, the district’s 300Mbps connection was routinely congested by huge software files from Apple, Windows and Microsoft. As a result, web browsing was slow and unreliable, leading teachers to swamp IT staff with support requests.
With plans to introduce more interactive media content and further invest in e-learning platforms for its Maths and English programs (Rosettastone, MathXL, Accellerated reading and maths), Network Administrator Gary Cummins was concerned the district’s link would not be able to cope with additional demand.
Gary applied for cache funding via the federal E-Rate programme and secured the ideal solution with CACHEBOX.
Once deployed, CACHEBOX’s impact was immediate. By offloading more than 21GB of software updates it took the strain off the WAN, freeing up capacity for congestion-free access to other content. And by serving updates directly over the LAN at faster LAN speeds, CACHEBOX delivers them many times faster.
“Since deployment, over 65% of Microsoft and Windows software updates are now served directly from cache – freeing up enough capacity to meet additional classroom demand,” says CACHEBOX Consultant Ilaria Mancinelli.
